About the Journal
Aims and Scope
The European Journal of Language and Literature Studies (EJLS) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research and scholarly reviews in language and literature. It provides an international forum for linguists, literary scholars, translators and language educators, and welcomes theoretical, empirical, historical and comparative work on any language and any literature, provided the manuscript is written in English.
EJLS publishes work that advances understanding of how languages are structured, acquired, used and taught, and of how literary texts are made, read, translated and situated in their cultures. It welcomes critical analyses, theoretical advances, empirical investigations and methodological innovations from a variety of perspectives.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to)
Linguistics and Language Structure
Syntax, semantics, lexicology, etymology, text linguistics, comparative linguistics, philology, the fundamentals of languages, and quantitative, statistical and mathematical linguistics.
Language, Mind and Society
Psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, ethnolinguistics, anthropological linguistics, bilingualism, language development and developmental linguistics, and language and technology.
Language Acquisition and Language Education
Applied linguistics, first and second language acquisition, language education and educational linguistics, and language assessment.
Literary Studies
Literary theory and practice, world literature, comparative literature, women in literature, literature of American diversity, and biographic arts.
Translation and Writing
Translation studies, critical writing and professional writing.
Manuscripts must have a language or literary question at their centre. Studies whose main subject is general education, public health, social policy or another field, without a central linguistic or literary question, are outside the scope of EJLS and are declined at the initial assessment.
All manuscripts submitted to EJLS that pass the initial assessment are reviewed double-blind by at least two independent reviewers. We invite contributions from researchers, academics, translators and practitioners worldwide.
