Abstract

Abstract The endodontic failures are common in dentistry because of complex procedure and problems related to diagnosis, root canals anatomy, level of canal filling, integrity of crown restauration and patient’s general health. The aim of this study is to find the most common reasons for endodontic treatment failure. Methodology. This cross-sectional study was carried out at one private dental clinic from May-September 2024. In this study were evaluated 573 teeth with periapical lesions in 234 patients, in which 54% were female and 46% were male. Periapical radiographic examination was recorded and evaluated only by one validated examiner. Results. Based on the type of the tooth, molars presented the highest percentage (71%), where 2/3 of them belonged to mandibular molars. Under-filled root canals were found in 66%, poor-filled in 39%, over-filled in 15%, missed canals 16.7%. Conclusion. Endodontic failures were most common in under-filled and poor-filled root canals. Endodontic failure was founded in teeth with and without crown.
