Abstract
Metals and alloys are frequently used in dentistry to repair or replace a broken or decayed tooth in a safe, reliable, manageable, effective and physiologically acceptable manner. Among the applications of interest are bridges, partial dentures and implants, which are exposed to the influence of the oral environment, food, toothpaste and mouthwash. During this process, materials can corrode.
In this context, we investigated the influence of artificial saliva (AS) on the corrosion behaviour of the Co-Cr alloy.Corrosion behaviour was studied in artificial saliva (AS) at t the temperature of the human body (37 ± 0.5°C) and at pH = 5.2 by means of electrochemical techniques. The tests were carried out without and with different immersion times i.e.( 2- 24hours). Hence, with increasing immersion time, the high polarisation resistance values imply a low corrosion current, this suggests that the material has become more noble due to the passive layer formed on its surface. The EIS experiment indicated a two-time constant process with anodic control, due to the formation of passive films on their surfaces. According to the results obtained in this study, the polarisation resistance of the Co-Cr alloys examined in solution (AS) reached the values of biomaterials with high corrosion resistance, and the passive films formed on their surface showed a more than satisfactory corrosion resistance capacity with time. SEM was used to confirm the film formed on the metal surface.
